In the West, the emergence of the study on "the female and the communication" relates closely with the social background of the feminine movement and the development of feminism in 60's of the last century, which stresses that we should examine the communication phenomenon we are accustomed to with the perspectives and the angle of view of feminism. Since the World Conference on Women in 1995, sex consciousness has been introduced to China as one brand-new concept, which has aroused public concern on women's issues. At the same time, the bloom of mass media communication makes it penetrate into each person's daily life. Meanwhile, the relationship between women and the media also becomes close day by day. As the media has formidable influence on the ideology and behavior, it has great potential to promote sex equality, and it also bears unshirkable social responsibility. As one of the women's medias which developed relatively early ,the female periodical is the media which is most representative of the living condition and the ideological concept of the female. Therefore, this article selects the female periodical as the object of study, and examines from the social sex's perspective what in hell the female images in the female periodical are, and whether they tally with the female in reality. In view of the fact that in domestic existing research the phenomenon description or the appraisal and the discussion is far more than the empirical study, so that the analysis on macroscopic stratification plane appears inane because of the lack of the support of concrete examples, but the analysis on microscopic stratification plane lacks breadth because of the limitation of analysis sample. This article selects separately the representative of the traditional woman periodical and fashion female periodical "Family" and "Womanfriend" to carry on the text explanation, hoping to study the female image in the female periodicals comprehensively.This article is divided into four parts: The first part introduces research motive of this article, and makes clear the object of study, the research questions and the research methods; The second part is the research summary of the relationship between gender and the medium, which combs the status quo of this research topic from the domestic and foreign research course and achievement; The third part mainly classifies and quantifies the statistics of the cover, the writing, the picture and the ad pages of the sample periodical "Family" and "Womanfriend" from 2004 to 2008, and in the content analytic method which unifies the quota and the qualitative analysis, summarize and analyze the female images in the female periodicals thoroughly through theory and demonstration; The fourth part makes the conclusion of this article in the foundation of summing up the third part, namely inspecting the female periodical with the social gender angle of view, we will discover that it presents deviation of the female images' performance and the female questions' reflection, and there are varying degrees loss of gender consciousness. Although the female periodical unceasingly unfolds the multiplication roles and the images of modern female as a whole, the female image's perfect reappearance is still from the perspective of the social dominance community-men. The majority of female in the female periodicals is still undertaking the traditional sex role, and is making a new stereotype of consumption and fashion. Based on this the article inquires into the reason for the present situation, and puts forward several proposals for the media to portray the female image reasonably.In conclusion, the author writes this article to make every effort to draw on the theories of communication studies, sociology, psychology, economics and so on, from specialized perspective of journalism, analyze profoundly the status quo of the relations between female and the female periodical, discuss how to improve the relations between female and the medium, further stress that we should integrate the introspection consciousness of social sex questions to the medium mainstream, and make efforts to found a medium space with gender equality and coordinated development, so as to achieve the goal that the media communication makes contribution to promote gender equality.
