Self-organized wireless network refers to the network self organized by wireless communication nodes with no fixed communication infrastructures. Due to Ad Hoc network’s exceptional function, a variety of protocols and technologies applied in traditional fixed network and mobile communication network can not be directly used, thus Ad hoc needs its exclusive protocol and arithmetic. The paper studies on Ad hoc’s clustering single-path and multi-path routing protocols, and the main works are related to the aspects as below:(1) To makes a overview of ad hoc network including its basic concept, system and structure as well as the current development and research direction of ad hoc. In addition, to make a comparison among typical protocols such as table-driven routing protocol, on-demand routing protocol, routing protocol, flat clustering routing protocol and so on.(2) To elaborate the advantages of multi-path routing protocol, and put forward Grid-based Clustering Single-path Routing protocols(GCSR) and Grid-based Clustering Multi-path Routing protocols(GCMR) by making use of the position information of notes. The geographic region of Ad hoc is divided into virtual grid, each grid forms a cluster, among which a head cluster is picked out. All the head clusters forms a backbone network, working for routing search and data transfer. The advantage of using grid to separate the network enables every note to compute its own grid ID according to its position information so that the cluster can be easily identified. Simulation experiment indicates the performance of GCSR and GCMR protocols is preferable.(3) To put forward Multi-broadcasting, Virtual-backbone-based, Wireless Ad hoc network routing protocol (MVSN). This protocol, on the basis of GCMR, brings in notes between clusters so as to form backbone together with head notes of cluster working for routing search and data search. Meanwhile, we can exanimate the performance of MVSN protocol by three aspects, including remaining energy, the proportion of notes whose remaining energy is10%less than network throughput. Simulation experiment indicates an excellent performance of MVSN protocol.
