In recent years, with the campus network user increasing and application demandincreasing such as the wireless campus network, digital campus, streaming mediaapplications. the existing IPv4campus network faces many problems, such as IPaddress is scarcity, network safety is not strong, the routing table is too long, QoSsecurity is difficult, multicast ability is weak. Therefore, It is inevitable trend that thecampus network will be upgraded to IPv6, Due to the restriction of capital, technology, equipment, personnel and demand for new applications, it must gothrough the IPv4and IPv6mixed network environment process, ensuring that theoriginal IPv4network services runs Stably and gradually upgrading the existingcampus network to IPv6.This thesis discussed the new features of IPv6protocol, and compared the IPv6protocol and IPv4protocol. it discussed the IPv6transition tunneling, dual stackprotocol technology, DSTM, Network Address Translation technology, gateway andprotocol conversion technology; explored the working principle and the workingprocess of the IPv6neighbor discovery protocol, demonstrated the Feasibility aboutdeploying and practicing on the IPv6network based on the existing IPv4networkinfrastructure.This thesis also discussed the design program on connecting with the IPv6backbone, it introduced that deploying IPv6network environment by hand-tunnelingtechnology based on the existing IPv4campus network environment, setting up theIPv6application servers, such as Web, VsFTP, DNS, Mail, And testing the functionson them, Verifid the feasibility of the IPv4and IPv6integration, and explored theproblems faced by IPv6constructing and promoting the process and gave thecorresponding solution.Followly, This thesis set up a dual-stack (Dual Stack) protocol simulationenvironment by using the simulation software(Packet Tracer), and implemented therouting configuration, the tunnel configuration and neighbor discovery protocolconfiguration, tested the ICMP protocol and verify the feasibility of the IPv4and IPv6integration.Finally, implemented to test TCP and UDP typical communication protocolperformance under IPv4and IPv6network environment by using Network testing tools Iperf, tested the single point, multi-point, the sliding window size on TCP; andcompared the difference of IPv4and IPv6; tested and analyzed the data size, jitter, packet loss rate on UDP under different throughput, corrected the packet loss rate.Verified the program Reliable and rationality to IPv4and IPv6integration of thecampus network construction, promoted the development and popularization of IPv6campus network.
