With the rapid development of computer technology, internet technology and digital imaging technology, medical technologies will become more digitized, informationized and filmless. Computer-aided diagnosis and regional medical technology have demonstrated their strong vitality. These technologies are becoming the trend of the development of medical field.The WADO technology, which is part of the DICOM standard, obtain DICOM persistent objects through web and is one of the key technologies in computer-aided diagnosis and regional medical technology.In this paper, the medical communication standards of PACS, DICOM were introduced. Then C/S structure and B/S structure were detailed compared. After that, the limit of the tightly coupling of the existing WADO and PACS database was discovered based on analysis the WADO technology. A system solution with gateway was proposed to isolate PACS database. This solution was accomplished through B/S structure and met the WADO standard.There were two problems to be solved in this paper. Firstly, we achieve WADO service which was defined by DICOM standard. In other words, we query and fetch DICOM persistent objects through web. Secondly, after understanding the bottleneck of existing technologies, a new method which is "WADO Gateway" services into WADO Service was proposed. This method guaranteed that the external interfaces of WADO service were by standard WADO way, while those of PACS system were by standard DICOM way, so that PACS service based on DICOM interfaces and WADO service were connected seamlessly.
