With the rapid development of computer technology, the multimedia technology havebeen spread up and become a popularization. It has been integrated into all areas ofpeople’s life such as working and studying. Today the multimedia technology has beenwidely used in education. Through the multimedia technology people can optimize andorganize the information in various fields. But the characteristics of multimedia materialare completely different from the traditional one. The traditional database composition andprocessing methods can’t meet the needs of multimedia material very well. We need to dodeep analysis and research new ways to manage multimedia material effectively.The design of the system is based on five basic requirements: the system is geared tothe needs of the teachers who specialize in teaching, the system can support different kindof tools for different material storage, the material library should be kept consistent instoring, indexing and retrieval, the system is able to process and store massive amounts ofdata in high speed, the system can provide more scientific knowledge classificationtemplates and convenient for storing according to the characteristics of services in education.The development of the system is fully complies with seven principles: the principlesof practical, economical, reliable, standardization, integrity, scientific, simple andnormalization. The features of the system include downloading, uploading, indexing,knowledge navigation, storage management and retrieval for education and teachingmaterials.The development of the system is based on browser-server model to improve theefficiency and convenience. Users can experience all the features through a browser. Thematerial library is designed with four layers: media support layer, data storage model layer,conceptual data model layer and multimedia user interface layer. The whole system isdeveloped under Windows2000Server with ASP and VC++6.0(for the collector). Also useSQL Server for database.The materials can be obtained by using self-collected collector. The collector isdeveloped with VC++6.0and the upload function is achieved through ASP.NET. To achieveresource indexing the system use by combining labeling with external characters andsystem design&indexing. The system provides a material navigator as user materialmanagement tools for ease of use. The navigator uses the tree view and expands throughthe material classified as basic principles. The system builds the material library retrieval mechanism by using keyword search. The system provides five kinds of retrieval methods:semantic description, resource name, knowledge point, description and introduction. Herealso supports cross-use two or more of the five retrieval methods and then take theintersection to get search results.The field in this dissertation is a part of the "Teaching Resources IntegrationApplication Platform" system. Users can get useful resources through simulate the processof human learning. The reasonable classification and indexing for the resources will notonly facilitate their use the resources but also shared better between the teachers.
