In recent years, the international status of China has been greatly improved by rapideconomic development, increasing comprehensive national power and a series of effectiveforeign exchange activities.China’s peaceful rise road is attracting the attention from all overthe world, and the U.S.-led western media also pays more and more attention to China.Meanwhile,some "noises" appeared.But our state media power is quite weak,whichrestricted the effective display of China’s nation image. To reverse the passive state and effecton the perception of our nation from foreigners,we must know how do they look upon us andwhat are the reasons.This thesis is on the basis of content analysis on the China-related reports from theAmerican mainstream media in different dimensions,take"Wall Street Journal","Time" andCNN(from2011-01to2011-12) for instances.The result shows that the China-related reportsfrom American mainstream media are effected and limited by lots of elements.Those mediafocus on some specific problems,they select topics and use news sources tendentiously.Thethesis analyzes the main reasons,and gives some solutions.This thesis consists of three parts,the introduction,the main body and the conclusion.The introduction part briefly reviews the background of China-related reports in theAmerican mainstream media,the value,the researching methods,significant and difficultparts,as well as related researches home and abroad.The first and second chapters study China-related reports of those3media from2011onthe basis of numbers and content analysis.Then try to analyze the types,topic selections,newssources,tendentiousness and classic cases on the basis of the translation and calculation work.The third and fourth chapters discuss3major patterns and7main reasons that whyAmerican mainstream media setup the framework and selected topics tendentiously.The fifth chapter does some considerations according to American mainstream media’sinclination.And finally,the author offers7suggestions.
