Traffic congestion has become a conundrum faced by many large citiesduring their development, the upcoming of this problems, such as energy wastingand environmental pollution, are getting worse. The development plan ofintelligent public transport system has been put on agenda in many cities. Theintelligent operating of buses is an important component of the intelligent bus.On the basis of analyzing of current domestic and foreign intelligent busterminal’s status, by using the3G/GPS technology, this paper designed a schemebased on the embedded system. This scheme adopts S3C2440microprocessor asits main control and calculate unit, software development is based on embeddedARM Linux OS platform.First this paper gives a study of the current development status of intelligenttransportation system and on-bus intelligent terminal. After the paper comparesall of the main stream solutions and analyzes the main functions of the on-busintelligent terminal has to perform, fina lly pin down the scheme. To implementthe transmission and monitoring of messages such as location, mobility data, andvideo data, the scheme involves in GPS positioning technology, TD-SCDMAwireless communication technology and embedded technology. The hardware ofthe scheme is composed of main control unit, storage unit, peripheral module unit,debugging unit and power supply unit, peripheral module unit adopt a USBcamera, integrate3G module and integrate GPS module. On the Software aspect,this paper elaborates on the transplantation of the OS platform and drivers’loading, and above all, designes the software on the basis of the embeddedsoftware platform.The scheme has achieved the data collection, storage and wireless transfer ofthe buses. The data inc lude inner and outer video data, mobility data, location andso on. The solution can also erect a communication with the traffic monitoring center through3G wireless network, with all that, the center can have a real-timeacknowledge of the driver’s condition, passengers’condition, traffic conditionand things that happens in emergency. So with the help of the solution, cases liketraffic monitoring, vehic le dispatching and accident handling will be largelyimproved, meanwhile the city’s traffic service qualities and standards will bemuch better, this design has certain academic value and practical significance.
