With the rapid development of economic, many city and corporation hasbeen face with the challenge of security, they want to defuse this conflict bythe video surveillance system. With the quickening of urbanization, the videosurveillance system has been aroused tremendous interest, which has gotadequate development and broad market.Currently, video surveillance system is transferring from a simpletechnology platform for evidence to a high reliable, professional andcarrier-class network video surveillance system. The surveillance systemincludes three parts: Physical Unit (PU), Transmission system and Backendstorage management subsystem, which plays an important role in the "GreenCityā€¯, even as the nerve endings and information carrier of "Digital City".High definition IP Camera is the physical unit of video surveillancesystem.The high definition IP Camera Over passive optical network (PON)composed of chassis zoom camera, video encoding and processing chip and optical communication interface module. This IP Camera could achieve imagecollection, coding compression, TCP/IP protocol encapsulation,electricalsignals conversion to optical signal and transmission control.This cameracombined the advantage of PON,like high bandwidth,low-cost, easyexpansibility and compatibility, and make full use of the advantage of fiberanti-interference ability in harsh electromagnetic environment andlong-distance data transmission capability.It can meet the need of transmittedvast amounts of data of video surveillance system.Firstly,this paper describe the background and relative technology ofvideo surveillance,and introduce the design and principle of videosurveillance system specially.Secondly,the design of hardware module wereput forward and software structure were discussed briefly.Finally, Theconclusion about the test of the camera are given and the text are summarized.
