Video surveillance technology has been developing very fast during these years,from analog signal in early times to digital signal via fiber network nowadays, and ithas changed people’s life so much that video surveillance can be seen almost allaround us, especially in public places. It’s believed that the video surveillance tech-nology will continue developing in the way of high definition and intelligence in thefuture, so there will be more requirements for those remote video capture systems, in-cluding high performance in video processing, as well as avoiding use of big andheavy devices like PCs. Therefore, embedded systems of high performance will getgood applied in video surveillance.This paper designs a real-time High-definition video coding&transmitting sys-tem based on Linux, on an embedded board which uses DM6467t SoC of TI. The mainworks of this paper are:1. Deeply study for Video Processing Front-End of DM6467t and its functionslike capturing and pre-processing video data. Design of related drivers based on V4L2framework in Linux kernel space.2. Using DSP to do video coding with the help of Codec Engine libs provided byTI, as well as programming for video coding in Linux user space. Meanwhile, videostream data transmitting under RTP/RTSP protocols via Ethernet is also realized.3. Adding the function of outputting data through SPI interface, which makesthis system fit for civil, industrial and even military use.
