With the development of digital technology and network technology, electronic productswith high-definition (HD) video capabilities come into our lives, HD video graduallydominate in the field of digital video. However, massive data storage and networktransmission of HD video are to be limited, so how to get high compression ratio under thepremise of the video quality have become a hot topic in the field of digital video.According to the system design requirements, this paper implements the design ofH.264HD(1080P) video compression system which is based on TI’s DaVinci processorTMS320DM368. This paper has mainly done board-level circuit design and embedded systemsoftware development.The new generation processor of TI’s TMS320DM368was chosen as the core processorof the system. We have given the design of the embedded video compression system, thenanalyzed the coding structure of H.264and proposed a fast motion estimation algorithm basedon block matching.In this paper, the whole system is divided into four parts: the video data input module,communication module, the core processing module and the power module. Video data inputmodule is, based on Altera Cyclone II series FPGA, mainly to complete the simulation ofhigh-definition video and the data conversion of video formats to meet the TMS320DM368input data requirements; communication module including10/100M Ethernet and serialcommunication; core processing module do some of the peripheral circuit design for theTMS320DM368, including the clock circuit, JTAG, DDR2SDRAM, Nand Flash circuitdesign and system startup; the power module supply to the other parts of the system. For eachpart, this paper has given the principles of design.In terms of software, we make use of the TI’s DVSDK software development package,analyze the embedded Linux boot process and embedded systems U-boot code, and do the kernel configuration and compilation. At last, we have finished U-Boot and Linux kerneltransplantation.The end of this paper summarizes the conclusion of total work and discusses futureresearch directions.
