The thesis discusses the China news coverage in the overseas Chinese media through a case study of Lianhe Zaobao of Singapore. With an integrated approach of quantitative and qualitative research methodology, the thesis conducts an analysis on the reporting features of Lianhe Zaobao in covering news reports in"Greater China"region, including mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan. The thesis aims to explore theoretical and practical significance of overseas Chinese media's coverage on China and China's international communication strategy and tactics. This thesis first provides history and development trends of overseas Chinese media, followed with an introduction on study approaches and methods. The content analysis on 10-year China news coverage in Lianhe Zaobao further explains the journalistic attributes of overseas Chinese media in terms of news selection and news treatment. Then the thesis turns to elaborate on news framing of breaking news reporting, and its uniqueness in news discourse. In conclusion, the thesis finds that Lianhe Zaobao has established a relatively objective and impartial point of view on China-related news reports. Under a double-structure standard of balancing political and human interest orientation, overseas Chinese media exerts a great impact on clarifying"China threat concept". It also influences opinions that would sustain China in strengthening its emphasis on political power.
