Steel wire rope is an important kind of space spiral product, which has characteristics of high strength, flexibleness and stability; has been widely applied in many fields, such as mechanism、architecture、transportation、communication、aviation and aeronautical, etc.Designing and manufacturing process of steel wire rope play a decisive role on the quality of products. There are many product’s quality problems, such as wire interlace、rope undulation、elastic uneven、diameter error、distance big and rope center exposure, and so on, in practical manufacturing process of steel wire rope sometimes. Most of quality problems may result from that product design don’t match with practical manufacturing parameters, because engineers use to work out procucts design according to ideal manufacturing situation, and some erros exist in product design. These products’unconformities lead to wasting of resources.Reaserch and development on virtual manufacturing system of steel wire rope base on VRML combining with C#.NET is presented in this thesis. Applying virtual manufacturing technologies, manufacturing process of steel wire rope and end products are simulated visually in three dimention by means of virtual modeling of manufacturing equipments, end products and process of twisting, seting key manufacturing parameters, and performing the models synchronously. By this way, optimal paramters of manufacturing equipments and products’ quality problems will be found before practical manufacturing, these informations will feedback to engineers as early as possible in order to improve products’ design and manufacturing technics further, therefore solving the quality promlems of products effectively. Major works of this thesis are as follows:(1) Proposing the solution of applying virtual manufacturing thechnology to slove products’ quality problems base on analyzing process of manufacturing of steel wire rope;(2) According to structural characteristics of composing of steel wire rope, the products family based hierarchy structure is constructed to manage virtual components and end products of steel wire rope;(3) Constructing virtual three dimension models of manufacturing equipments, end products and proposing twisting model of steel wire rope;(4) Some key technologies about designing and developing for virtual manufacturing system of steel wire rope is described and discussed, and effectivity of the system is demonstrated through some practical cases.
