Wire rope products are made of steel wires with high strength, because of its characteristics such as excellent flexibility, absorbing striking capacity, relative lower weight, strong carrying capacity, diversiform construction, complete specification etc, it is widely used in every walk of life such as port, station, mining, architecture, metallurgy, oil drilling, forestry, tourism, military etc. Closing machine is the main producing equipment in the process of manufacturing of rope, which is the most important stage in the process of production. By analyzing, we draw a conclusion that tension control plays a key role in the course of lay of the rope.The article illuminates development of the rope, operating mechanism of the closing machine, producing process flow and equipment condition, and summarize that key problem which influence quality of rope is the control of tension of strand during laying process. On the basis of analysing interrelated factors which influence tension of the strand, a mathematical model of the closing machine is established with a core of PID control system to lay a foundation for emulation of the tension control system. Because of complicated field-condition, real-time changes of the tension will occur in actual control system inevitably. So on-line adjustment of parameters of PID controller will be implemented by using fuzzy controller based on neural network to fit in with changes of control objects, the target of invariable tension control of the strand will be achieved consequently.The result of emulation shows that the system is stable and convenient for operation. Quick track capability of the system is much better, steady-state accuracy is high, and adjusting time is improved clearly. The dynamic performance of the system is improved as well as the ability of anti-jamming, so the system is able to meet the need of production.
