Water is the source of life. In order to improve and protect human survival environment, it is necessary to establish water resources monitoring system to better schedule and sustainably utilize water resources. The methods of monitoring water resources used to lag behind, featuring low technology and low efficient test. Therefore it is essential to set up water resources monitoring system with present advanced technology for rational utility of water resources.GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) built on the basis of GSM network is used to provide a network business with high-speed packet data for users. GPRS is characterized by quick network access and transmission and low-cost. With the improvement of GPRS network and better network quality, GPRS has applied in various fields of industry. According to the need of water resources monitoring, this paper proposed using AT89C52microcontroller and LQ8100A GPRS module as well as wireless transmission method to realize long-distant digital transmission in water resources monitoring system. Compared to the traditional leased line network, this method has incomparable advantages, entirely meeting the need of water resources data collection and transmission.The paper firstly made the brief introduction of GPRS and then discussed the whole framework of the system and analyzed hardware circuit to achieve a lower computer serial communication and finally developed the software platform of upper computer monitor. The parameter configuration and debugging of GPRS communication module has realized the wireless data transmission between lower and upper computers.
