With the development of Internet technology and the continuous improvement of people’s living standards, IPTV, as a product of this new era, walks into people’s lives. IPTV is a new technology combining network, multimedia, communications and other technology to provide users with a variety of interactive services, including digital television. IPTV set-top boxes, as IPTV terminal, become a hot research industry.The emergence of IPTV subverts the TV watching habits of people in the past. The audience is no longer a passive viewer, but the master of the broadcast. People choose their favorite programs free and completely according to their own personal preferences, which breaks through traditional media restrictions and realizes the real-time interaction between the viewers and the viewers and the website.This paper elaborates t he design process of the IPTV set-top boxes based on research topics of embedded Linux IPTV set-top boxes. The paper introduces the key technologies of IPTV set-top boxes and embedded LINUX operating system. In view of the above, this paper elaborates the concrete realization process of IPTV from both hardware and software aspects. Hardware part, the paper specifically addresses the IPTV set-top box hardware design framework and introduces the design platform HI3110E in detail, analyzes the master chip HI3110E, memory interfaces, and network interface module. The software part, the paper describes the development environment construction of IPTV set-top boxes, and discusses the design process of the system application software in detail. The paper elaborates IPTV set-top box software architecture and studies the development process under Linux drivers and Linux APIs. Finally, the paper gives the whole test indicators, test methods and results of IPTV set-top boxes. The test results prove that the IPTV STB design is feasible.
