Design Of IPTV Set-Top Box Hardware System

IPTV (Internet Protocol Television) is the operation based on the Broad-Band network. While the quantity of Broad-Band network user increasing, the Broad-Band media service including movie service which get most users' favor become the main service of Broad-Band increment operation. Television is more prevalent than personal computer in China, so, the Broad-Band media service must develop the terminal from personal terminal to set-top box terminal.In this paper, the hardware design of IPTV set-top box is introduced. It supports the information transmission of actual LAN and DSL network, and is answer for processing IP, audio and video data. Set-top box can decode video formats such as MPEG WMV and Real, it also can realize the functions by exchanging with IPTV system, for examples, users' ID identification, access control, expense management and so on.System requirement of set-top box's functions is analyzed, and the hardware system frame is worked out. The paper put forward the EM8622L's solution project, has improved the system's integration and function expansion. Furthermore, the main chips of set-top box's hardware system are introduced in this paper, and the paper not only provides detailed introductions for each module but also display some circuit designs. The power-supply structure of hardware system and power adapter's design are studied as well.Set-top box is based on Linux operation-system. Some important characters of Linux are studied including running condition, replantation measure. The paper analyses the system's software structure, and introduces the flow chart when set-top box is power on.As this paper expressed, set-top box's design based on EM8622L realizes all modules required, shows a good performance of facility and stability. And the whole system has a good real-time attribute and expansibility because of using the embedded system.
