Video surveillance system plays an irreplaceable role in our modern security system. The PC-based surveillance system is more mature, but they also have disadvantages such as large volume, high-cost and difficult to maintenance. With the development of science and technology, embedded technology, wireless technology and Web technology is increasingly applied to video surveillance systems, making up the deficiencies of the traditional surveillance system, and performing their own advantages.In this article, an embedded wireless network video surveillance system was designed. It integrates multiple functions, including video capture, data transmission, video storage and SMS alarm, and achieves B/S architecture through the embedded Web server. Users can access the web server through the browser to watch the surveillance video and save it. If someone invades the monitored area, messages will be send to warn the users.The surveillance system chooses S3C2440A as the embedded processors and selects Linux as embedded operating system. Video data is captured by USB camera and then send to the network via a USB wireless network card. U disk works as a storage medium, and GSM is used to send MSM. In terms of software platform, the system transplanted BootLoader and linux2.6.12kernel into the ARM platform, produced CramFs root file system, and built the web server. In terms of driver program, the drivers for camera and wireless network card are transplanted to the ARM-Linux platform and the driver of infrared sensor device is developed. A multi-threaded monitoring program is designed including image acquisition, network transmission, video storage and message alarm. Moreover the dynamic monitoring page is developed by Java applet technology.Finally, this video surveillance system was tested. Result shows that the system is multiple functional and has good stability. It can meet the requirement of real-time monitoring, and has broad application prospects.
