"The Main Purport of The Book of Rites"(《禮记要义》) is one part of " The Main Purport of Nine Confucian Classics"(《九经要义》),which is written by Wei Liaoweng. He is a famous representative figure of Neo-Confucianism at late Southern Song Dynasty. The original edition of "The Main Purport of The Book of Rites", Song dynasty block printed edition, now is treasured up in National Library of China, which have been receiving the attention of scholars, and it also been recognized the best edition. The book, total of33volumes, compiled with Scripture, annotation of ZhengXuan and Kong YingDa about" The Book of Rites "(《禮记》), is an important representative writings about " The Book of Rites " of Song Dynasty in both textual research and argumentation. The academic thesis, begining with the Wei Liaoweng’s life, academic ideas and his writings. Throughing systematically comb the editions existed, specially the word features and spread position of Song dynasty edition, we discuss the Wei Liaoweng creative motivation and the book complete time, and summed up the content and style of "The Main Purport of The Book of Rites". Secondly, throughing some methods such as comparison and collation, we reveal the collative value, the property and the impact etc, and estimate consequently over again the academic status of "The Main Purport of The Book of Rites".
