Five Rites "pilgrimage" Reading Notes

In this thesis, we mainly focused on the 262 volumes of General Study on the Five Rites together with its Introduction "for the ceremony in Origin" and "ancient ceremony of History "4 volumes , that is, 266 Volume in total. We have collected a comprehensive data of the ancient Chinese ritual system from the Pre-Qin down to the end of Ming Dynasty. Hereby, we have done a detailed research on it. General Study on the Five Rites consists of 85 categories. Although each category differs in sub-division and length, they all made detailed study on the evolution of the ancient ritual system both vertically and horizontally. General Study on the Five Rites is a peerless masterpiece that ever exists over the past few centuries. However, very few efforts have been devoted to making further study on this book. It is impossible to make a systematic and thorough study on its voluminous volumes in only two years. Therefore, we select only 11 volumes from General Study on the Five Rites (Vol 131-141: Pilgrimage part) to do proofreading. In the first place, on the basis of the study by Huitian Qin, we make further study on the ritual system of Pilgrimage and make a summarization of it. Then, we try to find the original of Qin's citations and proofread them. This thesis tries to do proofreading from four perspectives, namely demerits of other works corrected by General Study on the Five Rites; lack of other works completed by General Study on the Five Rites; demerits of General Study on the Five Rites; lacks of General Study on the Five Rites. In this way we hereby write a corrigendum of the book to make some adjustments and improvement to the book. In this thesis we also correct the demerits of the History of Han Dynasty,the History of Song Dynasty and the History of Liao Dynasty, etc. Besides, with the help of such works as Esplanatory Notes and Commentaries of the Thirteen Classics,DaTang KaiyuanLi and TongDian, we correct the demerits and complete the lack of General Study on the Five Rites (Pilgrimage part), and furthermore we make an objective comment on the literary value of General Study on the Five Rites.
