Before the twentieth century, the world was entitled with artillery and guns, afterwards, the world was called Press World. In the modern age of Shanghai, there is a street, once could be compared with The Fleet Street in London. This street was called The Oriental Fleet Street, in other words, it is the China’s Press Street, the Wangping Street.In the history of Chinese press, Wangping Street played a decisive role, any study about Chinese press history would mention the street. As a result, this dissertation argued the question how the street formed. This question would be presented in three levels. Firstly, the originality of the street, secondly, what’s the feature and character of the press alongside the street; last but not the least, the influences of the street left during the period between Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China.The dissertation mainly concentrates on the Wangping Street between1904and1912. The article will be deployed in three charters, to begin with, the Wangping Street in multiple angles, mainly examined in the dimension of natural space and culture space. It is also be discussed the original of Wangping Street in the angle within the dimension of foreign settlement, for example, the independent comfortable circumstances compared with the reign of Qing Dynasty, the suitable commercial surrounding, the concentration of the demography, as well as the accumulation of immigrations which forms the foundation of readers and communicators. The advanced cultural industry also motivated the formation and the future prosperity. The second chart mainly analysis the phenomenon of Wangping Street, the group of journalists and editors, the press organization, newspaper vendors, as well as the readers. First, through analyzing the instances of the Group of NAN Society, XILOUZHONGREN, the article discusses the unique features.In addition, reviewing the incident that presses alongside the Wangping Street propelled the foundation of Shanghai Presses Association, and called the endeavors from nationwide presses, ultimately, it benefits the presses by means of guaranteed the interests of presses and promote the standard of presses in Shanghai, finally, discussing the publication and circulation of the presses through the newspaper venders and analyzes the composition of the readers. All these efforts are endeavor to make a comprehensive analysis. The Charter Three is about Wangping Street, a typical public field of Shanghai. Analyzing Wangping Street, the presses alongside with the street, as well as the news agencies, with the Three in One Modern Shanghai public field mode, discussing the strong media criticizing strength and its influences in1911Chinese Revolution, are mainly argued in the third chapter. Nevertheless, with the inherent defects within the foreign settlement led to the insufficient guarantee in the level of constitution. Meanwhile, the rival of the parties underneath the press bring a consequence that the presses are hard to develop in an independent and healthy way. This consequence declared the terminal of liberal critics.The process of formation of Wangping Street, fundamentally speaking, is the formation of trinity public fields of Wangping Street, newspaper agencies, presses. It could be considered as a space based on the foreign settlement, with the feature of Chinese character’s public criticize fields, quite similar as the notion of Public Fields raised by Jurgen Habermas. In spite for its rapid appearance and decline, Wangping Street still plays an important role in the transfer period of Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China.
