As the industry’s rapid development, China has become one of the worst air pollutioncountries in the world.The most important issue of air pollution is to establish acomprehensive monitoring system.This paper takes air quality monitoring of Wuhan forexample,which applies much advanced technologise of computer,communicating andindustrial control to design a advanced,safe and secure environment air quality monitoringsystem.From the standpoint of system requirements analysis and design, this paper detailshow to use advanced technologies to build and develop an ambient air quality monitoringsystem. First,introduce the SCADA system’s components, functions, features andapplications, and analyse the differences of SCADA, DCS and FCS. Describe structure andprinciples of configuration software, which is used widely in the SCADA system. Andmake a difference between two configuration software Kingview and Indusoft.By the way,introduce the database access interface technology. Then, do a detailed analysis of thesystem’s needs and characteristics and select the design of SCADA and Kingview.Considering the actual situation,we make designs about the aspects of the structures of theambient air quality monitoring system, functions of sub-station and central station,communication networks, database access interface and software. Finally, describe thedevelopment of sub-station andcentral station’s data acquisition and human-machineinterface, and introduce Kingview how to communicate with SQL database throughODBC.SCADA system is not only used for electricity and petroleum chemical industry, canalso be used in the field of environment protection. This article describes a kind of SCADAsystem of ambient air quality monitoring, which acquise data safely and reliablly and has acomprehensive, friendly and beautiful HMI graphics.This system is running practicallyreliable.
