Augmented reality could enhance users perceiving of the real environment by overlyingcomputer-generated virtual information. Augmented assembly is to apply augmented realitytechnology into the assembly field, to realize the assembly guidance of workers by overlyingassembly guidance information in the real assembly environment, aiming at improving theassembly efficiency and quality, and reducing the production cost.First, the model building technology of the augmented assembly guidance informationwas researched, including the three-dimensional virtual model and the two-dimensional text.To build the model, the information was organized and managed by the assemblyhierarchical tree model, on which the other assembly guidance information was added.Meanwhile the acquisition and planning method of all the information in the model wasintroduced.Then the registration method was researched based on the nature features of images. Themethod includes offline and online stage. During the offline stage, we acquired the referenceimages of the real assembly scene, and the corresponding position and pose matrix wascomputed and tested. During the online stage, the nature feature points were abstracted andmatched using the algorithm of BRIEF, then the position and pose matrix of the real-timeimage was computed by the homography matrix to realize the registration.Third, the overlay technology of augmented assembly was researched, including theoverlay of the virtual model and text information. We realized the drawing and rendering ofthem, and they were overlaid with the registration results and the text layout information.Finally, a prototype system based on image nature features was developed to realizeassembly guidance by simple interface and simply operate, and the experimental results turnto be real-time and robustness.
