Radio Frequency Identification(RFID)is an automatic identification technology which hasbeen widely used since1980s and it identifies objects by the transmission of Radio. Comparingwith other automatic identification technology, RFID is safer, more reliable and better inanti-interference, and partly because of such advantages, it is widely used in many fields such aspublic security, production management and control, modern logistics and supply management,traffic management, military and so on. it will be the most promise field of information industryin the21st century.RFID system is divided into four types with the working frequency:lowfrequency(LF,125kHz),high frequency(HF,13.56MHz), UHF(UHF,860MHz-960MHz) andmicrowave(MW,2.45GHz). The UHF RFID system is the hottest research field because of itslong distance identification, rapid reading and nonmetal penetration.With the rapid development of the social needing, this paper proposes a design plan forRFID reader in UHF based on ARM9. After the basic concept of RFID technology, operatingprinciple, communication theory and related RFID technology standard are introduced in detail,the design plan for UHF RFID reader based on EPC Gen2protocol is established. The design ofthe system is divided into hardware design and software design. In the hardware design, wechoose the processor S3C2440of the ARM9as the main controller, the SRR1M00module ofthe HongYu Corporation as the RF part of reader. With the deep research of these two modules,we established the hardware platform of the RF system. In the software design, we use ADS1.2as the software development Kit, embedded C language as the programming language. Weinitialize the system hardware and control the reader processing of the system andcommunication, the label information is demonstrated in upper computer by using the comdebug tool.Finally, a test plan for the RFID system is proposed in detail in the paper, including the testof hardware and software performance. And the test result indicated that this system is basicallymeet the requirement of the design, and achieves the anticipated function of the UHF RFIDreader in a certain extend. Also, there are some shortages in this system. Some improvingsuggestion is proposed in this paper at the end.
