Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is a technology that can identify objects automatically and acquire relevant information through radio frequency signals. As the rapid development of the technology, RFID expands its domains and finds wide application in our daily life. It will be a basic technology in the construction of information society in future. But there are still obstacles for the development of RFID Technology. The objective of the implementation of the reader simulator described in this thesis is to solve the problems in the development of RFID software. The diversity of the function and interface of different hardware products increased the burden on the development of the middleware and application software in RFID field and weakened the flexibility and extensibility of the software. Besides, a developer always feels helpless when he needs a research and testing environment. Because of the flexibility and the extensibility, a reader simulator would be a solution to current problems.EPCGlobal is one organization that is devoted in developing recognized standards for the RFID industry. In this thesis we research on the Reader Protocol(2006, version 1.1) and Reader Management Protoco(l2007, version 1.01) published by EPCGlobal. Based on the protocols, I implemented a general, extensible RFID Reader Simulator which has a Strong compatibility. I also provided device control software to monitor the simulated reader network. To implement the software, I took advantages of the Java Programming language and the SNMP protocol. The simulator's functions include monitoring the status of tags, providing standard feedback to the device controller, providing standard interfaces which are necessary when communication with middleware. Also, clients can change the actions and form of messages when make changes to the configurations. Undoubtedly the simulator will be helpful to the research on the protocols and developments of middleware.
