Human-machine interface (HMI), the interactive device of human and machine, is an indispensable part of industrial control systems. Under the sustaining improvement of industrial automation and rising market demand for HMI, the higher requirements of the product’s features and performance are put forward. In this thesis, a high-performance HMI system with touch screen is designed.Through analyzing the research situation of embedded systems and HMI, this thesis comes up with the product’s functional and performance requirements, then, an overall scheme based on the ARM9processor and Windows CE embedded operating system (OS) is proposed. On the basis of this scheme, the whole system is designed and the systematic frame structure is proposed. The HMI system is divided into four modules:configuration software, hardware platform, embedded operating system platform and application program. Moreover, all the modules are introduced respectively below. According to the hardware environment and functional requirements of HMI, the windows CE embedded OS platform of HMI is built by means of drive transplantation and kernel customization. Based on the OS platform, the data upload/download, data parse, communication and other modules of HMI application program are designed, meanwhile, the implementation scheme is represented. To verify the software performance of HMI OS platform and application program, a series of tests are processed. By analyzing the test results, the real-time and stability performance of the HMI system software can be confirmed. Furthermore, the corresponding optimization measures are proposed to existed problem in system starting time. Finally, the work in this thesis is summarized and the thesis put forward the future research direction of the touch screen HMI system.
