Video capture technology has been widely applied nowadays with the rapid development of science and technology. It is inevitable that in the future traditional analog video capture systems will be replaced by digital video capture system, and among which, the one who based on embedded technology has been paid much attention on due to its characteristcs of low cost, intelligent and miniaturized. A high definition video capture system which could be used in lots of fields was developed and designed in this paper based on TI’s Davinci processor TMS320DM368 and Omni Vision’s color CMOS(Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) digital image sensor OV5640 according to the design requirement of system, and the main works accomplished in the paper are obtained as follows:Firstly, the processor TMS320DM368 and image sensor OV5640 were chosen as the core architecture of the system, and the high definition video capture system based on embedded technology was designed during the next step.In terms of hardware, the whole system was divided into four parts:video data input module, communication module, the core processing module and power module. Using OV5640 as the core of the sensor, the video data input module was designed with a convertor circuit to match the different I/O electrical level of TMS320DM368 and OV5640. The communication module included two parts:10/100M Ethernet and serial communication, mainly used to realize command and data transport between the host and target machines. The core processing module were used to do design peripheral circuits for the TMS320DM368, including clock module, JTAG debugging module, memory module, USB module and system startup module. The power module could provid stable and reliable voltages of various specifications for the entire system, and manage the processes of power-up and power-down with a dedicated power management chip, while ensuring the function of real time clock.In terms of software, the following two parts have been done in this thesis:one is the software development environment construction of the embedded Linux system, including the establishment of cross-compiler environment and the cutting, compiling and transplantation process of U-Boot, Linux kernel and file system. The other is the programming for video capture based on OV5640 camera module.Finally, the system was tested with analysis and after which, the conclusion of all works was summerized. In addition, future research directions wre discussed in the end of the paper.The system supported 1080P HD video capturing, hardware H.264 encoding compression, and local storage. It can be widely used in all walks of life such as security monitoring, medical care, aerospace and other industries, and its application value is of great importance for practical engineering.
