Data link is a system for distributing, processing and exchanging information, it links thecommand center, combat troops and weapon platforms of the digitized battlefield together toform a whole. Ad Hoc has the remarkable “communication in moving” characteristics, whichmakes the multi-task subnet data link networking technology based on Ad Hoc networkbecome the focus of the military research. There are no special router and server infrastructurein the Ad Hoc internet, each node in the internet should has the function of the datatransmitting equipment, so the routing protocol becomes the key technology of the Ad Hocnetwork, and at the same time, it becomes the research focus of the multi-task subnet datalink. In this paper, we studied the routing protocol of the Ad Hoc internet from the routingaccess point. According to the shortcomings of the table driven routing protocol has thedisadvantages of large routing overhead and on-demand routing is difficult to meet thereal-time requirement of business, based on the scene features of the multi-task subnet datalink in the tactical environment and the requirements of the routing protocol, we proposed theimproved ZRP protocol which is suitable for the multi-task subnet data link, and studied theimproved ZRP protocol from the routing algorithm within a subnet and the routing algorithmbetween subnets of these two parts.Based on the OMNeT++network simulation, we completed the simulation of theimproved ZRP protocol which applied to the multi-task subnet data link. We also simulatedand studied the effects of various factors on the improved ZRP protocol performance in detail, these factors are the node density, node coverage, node moving speed and the tasks of thenetwork and so on. The simulation result shows that: the node’s moving can cause the networktopology changes, thereby causes the link failure. The node moves with greater speed, thenetwork topology changes faster, and the more times the links interrupt, therefore the movingspeed of the node causes great influence on the performance of the network. The nodecoverage decides the hops between the nodes, the larger the node coverage, the hops arerelatively small, and the higher probability of the link connected, the better the performanceof the network. The increasing of the tasks in the network will aggravate the wireless resourcecompetition, and then increases the probability of the packet conflict, thus the performance ofthe network declines. When the node density increases, the end-to-end delay and packet arrival rate performance become better, but it will lead to larger routing overhead.
