As a major part of the security system, video surveillance plays an important role for the applications of Internet of Things. Video surveillance technology is constantly moving towards network-based, high-definition and intelligent. Intelligent video surveillance network usually uses completely distributed architecture, centralized management and overcomes the limitations of traditional video technologies in the aspect of structure and application. At the same time, it is significant to ensure the time synchronization and this is the premise to make sure a video surveillance system and time-based cooperated monitors working accurately and efficiently. This thesis focuses on intelligent analysis and networking video surveillance technology, the key technologies and the collaborative ways of working. In order to validate and achieve the intelligent network video surveillance technology, a prototype system experimental platform is built by USB cameras, computers, and open source software packages. The thesis discusses the application architecture of platform video analysis technology, the building method and configuration of the experimental platform, verifies the feasibilities, including entrance detection, motion detection, fire alarming, worker population detection, of the experimental platform through the simulation in different application. The experimental platform can provide a playground environment for subsequent study of intelligent network video surveillance technologies. The experimental platform could support multiple cameras and implementation of intelligence analysis. The thesis puts forward a solution to ensure the time synchronization of the video surveillance network, uses the prototype platform to verify the feasibility of the solution. Results show that it is possible to ensure higher accuracy of the time on the base of the same external clock source but less in reliability, and solution based on the different external clock source leads to an opposite performance. The approach based on the local clock source could ensure both the accuracy and reliability however it is more expensive. It is showed that the choice can be made according to the actual situation in performance demands and cost constraints.
