As a chronic non-communicable disease, hypertension has brought heavy burden to humansociety and also reduces the life quality of whom with it directly. With the Chinese aging process,the number of hypertension patients is keeping growing, so the comprehensive management ofhypertension in communities has become a key intervention in the heath promotion programmedon hypertension even in area of non-communicable diseases’ prevention. The patterns of healthcommunication indifferent levels have different characters, using them comprehensively has beenthe common sense in health educators, and the first step to use them comprehensively is the rightevaluation of the health needs in the communities. Our research uses qualitative combined withquantitative methods to investigate the hypertension patients in a community (in Chengdu, China),aims to evaluate the needs of health communications in different patterns, then to offer someadvice to better management of hypertension in communities.In this survey, the KAP of the the hypertension patients is relatively low, most of them don’tadhere to the doctors’ advice to take drugs regularly in a long period. The data advise that theeducation level is racial to the KAP. The higher the education levels of hypertension patients, themore positive their attitude to disease management. What’s more, the environment of hypertensionpatients has impacts on their knowledge, attitude and behavior. If their family member,companions corporate to doctors and the health information is available, the condition of thehypertension patients is better. The hypertension control and management is depend on thepatients themselves, but hospital, community, mass communication, and family have impacts onthe patients. So we should make hypertension management more effective, help hypertensionpatients to control disease, improve qualities of their life.Patients with hypertension in community health education mode of transmission of the choiceand demand have the following characteristics:1、 The most popular health communication patterns in communities are: healtheducation by doctors, Hypertension’ club and lectures on hypertension. 2、 in inter-personnel level: health education by doctors is the most popular pattern incommunities, however, is not well satisfied. The participants revealed the mainreasons are: doctors’ busy work and tight schedule; patients don’t know how to ask;not every general practitioner in communities can offer effect.3、 Communication in group or organizational level: Diabetes’ club has positive affect inPromoting self-management in diabetes, sharing experience and mutual support. It’sWorth while to summarize, develop and popularize.4、 Mass communication level: mass media has got quite large audience, it’s a potentialplatform for health education, although needs more regulation.
