Abstract/Summary:
HIM professionals are being asked to join privacy workgroups as multi-stakeholder organizations come together for the purpose of electronically sharing patient information. In doing so, they are conducting research to find as much information as possible on the topic of health information exchange so they can combine this information with their own knowledge of privacy and bring this expertise to the table. Although many articles have been published in the last few years addressing certain components of health information exchanges, there has been an absence of sources focusing on a broader scope of issues. The research for this project resulted in a resource guide as well as an article and Power Point presentation to assist HIM professionals involved in Health Information Exchanges (HIEs), Regional Health Information Organizations (RHIOs), or any other projects involving the electronic sharing of patient information.
