According to the data released by the World Health Organization(WHO),at present, the number of depression patients in the world has exceeded 350 million, with a growth rate of about 18%in the past 10 years. In 2030,depression will become the world's largest burden disease, with more than 95 million people suffering from depression in China.Although it is very serious now, there are still many puzzles and prejudices about depression in the public. As an important channel for people to get daily information, the media should shoulder more responsibility than before. How to report depression issues and how to present the image of depression patients will directly affect the people's awareness and attitude towards this mental diseaseFrom the perspective of health communication, this paper uses the method of combination of quantitative and qualitative to divide the research into two parts. In the first part,we take the reports about depression on Health Times Network from 2010 to 2019 as the research sample. From the number of reports, the date of reports, the genre of reports, the source of information, the topic of reports, the way of presentation and the tone of emotions, this paper discuss how depression issues are structured and what their characteristics are constructed. The second part is a case study of depression related reports from Health Times Network, and the self reported patients who are posted in official account and post bar. This paper makes a comparative analysis of the patient image in media reports and the self image in patient logs, and reveals the bias and problems of mass media in the depressive issue reportThis paper finds that at present, the media in our country do not pay enough attention to the issue of depression, the number of reports is generally small, the growth rate is not obvious, and the main type of reports is news, lacking of in-depth content. And the report relies too much on authoritative sources and ignores the right of folk discourse At the same time, there are obvious differences between the image of patients under the media report and the image of patients under the self-report.On the whole, the patient image described by the patient is diverse and complex. On the contrary, the media use simple narrative techniques and selective reporting methods to label patients with negative and solidified labels. Therefore,it aggravates the stigmatization of the disease, seriously hinders the public's correct cognition of the depression, and increases the stigma of the patients with depression and their families, and intensifies their aphasia in public.
