With the rapid development of high technology and wide applications in the military field, the battle style of modern warfare has undergone great changes. Besides increased anti-factor on the battlefield and strike capabilities and night battle capabilities, information technology continues to strengthen mobile operations capabilities. Individual soldier combat system which regards a solider as a weapon platform of the operational command system and is designed and planned from the man-machine-environment perspective acts as the key to the informational battlefield.Purpose of the system is to take advantage of human’s objectivity factors and subjective factors provided by information and digital technology, thus the system refers to human’s high level intelligence such as creativity, foresight and flexibility with combination of low-level functions of computer system. This paper first reviews the origins and development of individual solider combat system development, and then analyzes composition and military power of the world’s major battlefield systems, and discusses the military individual combat system characteristics and development of our army at last. On this basis, this paper focuses on individual solider combat system design based on wireless ad hoc networks, presents a survivability capability with a strong network formation mechanism which is fully integrated with the main army soldiers flexible features, highlights the advantages of individual or group operations and improves network connectivity. In this research program, we try to use the latest mobile computing technology to improve compute capability and communication capability of the system by integrating the tablet PC operating system Android and3G mobile communications module with WIFI short-range wireless transmission technology. In the framework of the overall design, this paper studies the video image capture and transmission technology and GPS-based positioning technology in detail. At last, this paper describes detail of the system design and main technologies used to implement the system.
