Along with the further integration of the mobile communication network and the Internet in recent years, the next generation communication systems are evolving towards all-IP direction. More and more intelligent equipment accessing to the Internet makes the scale of the mobile internet rapidly grow. The proposal of mobile IP aims to resolve the mobile node’s mobility problem at the network layer, which makes it unrelated with the link layer and be transparent for the upper protocol.Because IPv4and IPv6are not compatible, the IPv4network and IPv6network will coexist for a long-term. Dual stack mobile IPv6specifies how a mobile node could roam through IPv4, IPv6and dual stack network. The proxy mobile IPv6is a Network-based mobility management protocol, which does not need mobile node to deliver signals. In addition, it introduces the IPv4support for the mobile nodes. The two protocols have their own characteristics and complement each other. According to different scenarios, it would need to deploy both in the same network. In this thesis, the basic concepts and working principles of mobile IPv6, dual stack MIPv6, PMIPv6and IPv4support for PMIPv6have been presented firstly. Based on the in-depth understanding of the DSMIPv6and IPv4-PMIPv6, the paper has classified the scenarios into six cases by whether the HA and LMA are integratedly deployed and whether the foreign network is non-proxy domain or IPv4IPv6and dual stack network. The mobile node registers the address which is allocated in the proxy domain as Care-of Address to the home agent when in the separation deployment and the two protocols need less interaction. Due to the difference of the working mechanism about the structure of Binding Cache Entry, the pattern to allocate address, the security association and the race condition about the two protocols, it has brought many problems. The paper analyses these issues. In addition, solutions and recommendations to enable these scenarios are also described. Such as keep the structure of BCE and give priority to use proxy pattern to allocate home address and capture the data. The paper also briefly describes the signaling processes and data transmission of each scenario. At last in the paper, it simulates the HA and LMA merged deployment scenario and analyses the performances from the end-to-end delay, network throughput, etc. in NS-2simulation.
