With more addresses and higher security, the IPv6 designed by IETF will replace the IPv4 that is extensive used currently in the near future; On the other hand, because of the large scale of Internet and the big number of users and devices of IPv4, the IPv4 and IPv6 need coexist currently. With the development of Internet, the requirement of mobility is increasing. MIPv4 makes the maintaining communication when mobile node moves between IPv4 networks, while, MIPv6 makes the maintaining communication when mobile node moves between IPv6 networks, but Since running MIPv4 and MIPv6 simultaneously will cause errors, we need a protocol to provide mobility management between IPv4 and IPv6 networks.DSMIPv6 extends the features of MIPv6, allows dual stack node moves between IPv4 and IPv6 networks, and maintains the communication.This thesis describes the basic principle and function of MIP, Dual Stack and DSMIPv6; analyze the present research and implement condition of DSMIPv6; designs the method to implement the DSMIPv6 based on MIPv6;implements the DSMIPv6 based on Linux; build the testbed using DSMIPv6 on Linux system; tests the performances on various scenes; analyze the signal and message during the running of protocol and test data; confirms the correctness and feasibility of DSMIPv6; provide reference for deeply research of DSMIPv6.
