As light sources, LED(Light Emitting Diode)have the following key specifications: strong luminous intensity, high luminous efficiency, more energy saving, longer life service and with environmental friendly. Therefore, it has been viewed as the most promising idea for new light sources in the 21st century. White LED is widely used now, including the flashlight, decorative light, LCD backlight, internal illumination of the car , projection lamp. The High-brightness white LED is even considered to be one of the greatest inventions after Edison invented the incandescent light bulbs.As the next generation of products, white LED has great prospects and great potential in common lighting application. In order to achieve white LED lighting applications, we start our design and test research from the perspective of the drive circuit. At first, this paper describes the developing history, the development trends of the LED lighting and the white LED lighting mechanism and analyzes the white LED driver circuits. We focus on the design of drive circuit on the white LED based on MIP55X series chip. According to the input of AC100V, 60Hz conditions, 24 * 3,72 chips on the LED chip and its implementation function, we design four various LED drive circuits. We conducted a series of performance tests (including power, luminous flux, luminous efficiency and circuit efficiency) and EMC test. With the use of Buck-type drive circuit, we can achieve a 56.13 lm/w luminous efficiency and the circuit efficiency of 92.86% which can help optimize circuit of the actual products. Moreover, based on the Buck-type drive circuit, we can achieve a dimming function drive circuit by only adjusting some parameters of components and avoiding the cost increase of components in the process of upgrading. Finally, test results show that we can fulfill the design requirements and it will have a promising and potential application in the design of circuit.
