With the advancement of technology and the enhancement of human life, people’s environmental protection consciousness also began to increase. The water industry continues to pursue its own goals is just around the corner to improve the quality of tap water, but also to achieve low energy consumption and high stability of production. Automatic control of the water industry can make the complex production process to achieve safe operation and reduce costs, at the same time can save human resources and human-induced accidents. Therefore, it is an inevitable trend of social development to design a water supply system using advanced automation technology and science in water industry.Though the understanding of water development present situation and successful experience of waterworks at home and abroad, This article take a water plant in Chengdu as an example and design a set based on GE’s the IFIX configuration software and PAC RX3i series redundant PLC, combined with the actual situation of this water plant. This set of IPC+PLC model of water production process automation control system can solve the waterworks out the problems in the original running process, and also make a further improvement of the water treatment process to ensure water quality, improve the automation degree of water plant, and make the system maintenance more easy and convenient.The paper detailed description of the production process, the overall automatic control system design, equipment selection and system functions of the water treatment plant. In accordance with the production process and geographical location, the control scheme is divided into four parts, from water intake pump house remote control system, the sub unit control system, network communication system, as well as the host computer monitoring and management system. The entire system in the control system equipment is relatively independent on the basis of the various sub-coordinated, in order to achieve the automated operation of the equipment which in the production process.The subordinate computer of the water plant sets five PLC subordinate stations by the PAC RX3i series redundant PLC, and each station controls the pumps valves, level gauge instrument, and other control equipment or instrument, connects to central control room host computer for concentrated control and management through Industrial Ethernet. The PLC sub-station control system using CIMPLICITY ME software programming.The configuration software IFIX running on the industrial computer which in the control room, for data acquisition and real-time monitoring of various aspects of the production process of the water plant. the flexible configuration of IFIX completed PC monitoring system, easy to operate, and real-time dynamic display the working status of each device in the entire production process, allows the operator to fully and accurately grasp the status of the operation of the entire production process, timely detect the problems and make the appropriate treatment, in order to ensure the normal operation of the entire production process. At the same time, PC monitoring system has the function of real-time data display, historical data query, report generation print and alarm.
