Radar Echo Signal Simulation is a technology which is widely applied in the wholeprocedures of modern radar’s design, verification and maintenance. It can produce aradar echo signal independently through a signal generator with a certain properconfiguration. In fact, different kinds of Radars are equipped different radar signal simulators. Themain subject of this paper is to develop a multi-function Ground Based Radar echosignal simulator. Before that, It shows the modeling methods for many kinds ofconstituting signals of the radar echo, and discusses the feasibility of the system frame.Throughout the whole paper, its main content and work can be summarized as below:1. It discusses the theory of radar system and the basic principles of radar echo’smodeling. After showing the mathematical models of point target’s Doppler echo, clutter from the background, deception jamming from the enemy and noise from radarsystem itself, simulation results in MATLAB of these models is giving out.2. Using a combination of software in PC and hardware on FPGA platform, a blueprintof the whole radar system is revealed later. Before carry it out, in chapter3, it discussesthe feasibility from the cycles it takes to generate all the signals and the memory size itmay use to store all the data.3. After test all the external interface that used in the system successfully, includingEthernet, DDR2memory storage and Z-DOK+high speed parallel transmissioninterface, here comes the whole process to realize the system design throughVERILOG-HDL in the environment of XILINX ISE, besides, configuration softwarein PC performs too.4. In the end, it shows the test result of the radar echo signal simulator in many ways, such as capture picture in MODELSIM,Samples through Chip-Scope and the analogwaves in Oscilloscope. All the results imply that the simulator performs very well, sothis project succeeds.
