With the vigorous development of information industry, the boundary betweencable television, telecommunication networks and Internet begin to blur as the core ofdigital convergence. Also the processing technology of TV terminals based on PCmatures. It is not only more interactive and arbitrary to watch digital television by usingPC than the mode of set-top box with TV, but cheaper than purchase expensive digitalTV receiver. In recent years, with the rapid progress of communications infrastructureand Internet technology, the rapid decline in bandwidth costs and increase in broadbandusers, a new TV business based on IP——IPTV has obtained rapid development. Itintegrates Internet, multimedia, communications and other technologies together,provides a variety of interactive digital media services to home users through IPprotocol.The application discussed in this paper based on Windows platform. The hardwareof the implementation of digital TV application is based on the Conexant’s chip solution.Meanwhile, the IPVOD application is also given. The main content includes:Firstly, this paper gives the advantages of digital TV compared with analog TV,and simply analysis the difference between digital TV and IPTV.Secondly, the background knowledge of client application development is given,which includes the coding standard and transmission of digital cable TV, the frame ofDirectShow and Broadcast Driver Architecture.Thirdly, the detailed design of client application included digital television andIPVOD is given. Specially, the technology of content distribution network is introducedin IPOVD.Lastly, a comprehensive test of various functional modules in the client software isgiven. The test results are also analyzed at the same time.
