With the improving of the science technology, wheat-hardness testing method has been developed from artificial method to using a precise instrument which is being put into various properties for hardness instruments such as high-precision, portability and operability. The embedded system of smaller, lower and higher performance are used to the platform of hardness measurement can lose the volume and weight of the system and make the costs lower based on the performance. So, this paper has researched the application of embedded technology in the control system of hardness tester, and has designed the test and control system based on ARM for wheat hardness.A detailed summary is set forth about current research state and developing trend of control system for wheat hardness tester. With the problems in the current system and hardness requirements analyzed, then the Top-bellow Machine test and control scheme based on ARM and MCU according to a new test method is proposed. The research and design of the test and control system for hardness instrument was studied by this paper from the aspects of hardware and software.The design of hardware mainly contained:a hardware platform is built in the upper machine by using ARM9microprocessor S3C2440as CPU according to the function requirement. This platform adopts touch screen and color LCD as input-output device of system, which improves the humanization of hardness instrument. The lower machine consists of peripheral equipment such as strain sensor, servo motor, and adopts MCU STC89C52chip as the centre of control. Being the system controller, the lower machine saves the upper system resources and ensures the smooth running and response speed in the upper machine.The emphasis is put on the study of method to realize the serial communication in Top-bellow machine and the explore of man-machine interface in embedded system in research of software. This paper adopts a method of developing GUI based on Qt/Embedded to meet the actual need of test and control system for hardness tester, after that the custom Embedded Linux Platform is ported and the functions of touch screen control, serial communication, and LCD real-time display accomplished. At last, the realization of function in the lower machine.After debugging on the hardness instrument, the experimentation about proving the instrument has been made. Finally, this paper confirmed a better integrative index that can distinguish the wheat hardness and reached the prospective effect.
