Energy conservation is becoming the theme in nowadays world. The LED, with thefeatures of low power consumption and long life, has broad application prospects to alternatetraditional light sources in the field of lighting and display applications. China is a nation withlarge scale of LED packaging, but most of the equipments used in the domestic packagingcompanies are at a low level of automation. Especially a number of defect detection processesin the packaging process are performed by manual work. It greatly reduces the productionefficiency of the entire packaging process. So it needs to introduce the machine visiontechnology to speed up the production process of the LED packaging.For the application requirement of defect detection in LED packaging processes, thepaper presents a visual system architecture constructed with a single PC and multiple imagecapture terminals, and the IEEE1394high-speed serial bus is used as the data transmissionchannel between the PC and the terminal. This visual system can transfer the image capturedby the terminal to the host computer through the1394bus quickly and correctly. Moreover, itis flexible to switch to the appropriate sensor in different defect detection occasions, whichhelps to enhance the integration and reduce the overall cost of the LED packaging equipment.The work content and design results are mainly as follows:The paper systematically researches the architecture topology, addressing, protocolarchitecture, communication model and service packet, bus configuration of the IEEE1394bus, and a communication protocol is built between PC and image capture terminal in thevisual system.This paper designs the hardware of the image capture terminal with FPGA as thecontroller, MT9V032as the image sensor, TSB12LV32and TSB41AB1as the IEEE1394transmission control chips, and adopts SOPC technology to build the firmware system withinFPGA in order to realize the terminal’s functions of image capture and transmission.The driver and image capture software are designed corresponding to image captureterminal on PC, which enables the PC to identify the terminal and display the imagetransferred from the terminal.
