With the rapid development of computer bus technology, and the popularization of computer and consumer electronics products, the requirements of electronic products to the information data transmission speed, bandwidth, the real-time and the stability greatly improve. As a standard of data transmission, IEEE1394 bus has characteristics of high-speed transmission, high-bandwidth capacity and good scalability, and plug-and-play, bus dynamic configuration and other features, which is becoming one of the extensive application buses in the field of data transmission.The research of this paper is an important part of project which is supported by Dalian Science and Technology Funds" resource management and system status monitoring in web server (No: 2005 J22JH031)". This paper mainly research IEEE1394 serial bus used in the Linux cluster monitoring system.This paper introduces the technical characteristics and architecture of IEEE1394 high-performance serial bus, and analyses the asynchronous and isochronous transmission mode, including the protocol hierarchical structure, transmission interface and the data-copy and implementation in the process of data sending and receiving. details management mechanism of 1394 serial bus, and gives the test results.In view of high-speed transmission features of the 1394 interface, on the basis of understanding and mastering IEEE1394 architecture, communications model and data transmission, this paper designes and implementes cluster monitoring system---CMS-MON system, which of the agreement bases on the IEEE1394 serial bus protocol to achieve the cluster monitoring system. This system presents a highly efficient real-time monitoring of the serial bus programme, little changes 1394 drivering source, makes IEEE1394 serial bus protocol organically combines with the cluster monitoring system, which not changes IEEE1394 serial bus protocol on the basis. This system has hardware application and simple maintenance, small system overhead, using kernel-level programming approach to reduce system overhead, reducing the scale of cluster monitoring system. From the efficiency of information collection, the real-time of updated nodes information, the state information's reliability, the performance of cluster monitoring system has greatly improved. This paper makes a solid foundation for IEEE1394 serial bus protocol using in the further research of cluster monitoring system.
