With the economic globalization and the sustained growth of logistics the port lifting equipment is becoming larger, heavier and faster accordingly which made a new demand for the port lifting equipment monitoring system, no longer simply stay on the correctly control and running, but comprehensively acquire the information of equipment operating posture, operating status and operating efficiency. Therefore, the port equipment manufacturers and dock hope a new generation of monitoring systems based on three-dimensional, having the immersive and interactive real-time simulation environment, which can real-timely show the information of the port lifting equipment operating posture, operating environment and operating status with three-dimensional interface. Desktop virtual reality is a branch of virtual reality to abandon the "immersion", so the cost of desktop virtual reality system is relatively much lower, but with the development of computer graphics hardware, immersive effect has also been greatly improved. Therefore, the desktop virtual reality is considered to be a necessary stage in virtual reality research work which have a wide range of applicable groups.WPF is Microsoft’s new graphics system, provides a unified description and method of operation for the user interface,2D/3D graphics, documents, and media. WPF provides a super-rich.NET UI framework, integrates vector graphics,3D visual effects and powerful control model framework. The advantages of WPF make it become one of the commonly used tools for desktop virtual reality.The3D port lifting equipment monitoring system on WPF is a comprehensive application of desktop virtual reality technology, which uses the UDP network as the data carrier and the work data as the model driver. The goal of the system is to reflect the actual equipment work condition and monitor the real-time device health status using3DS modeling and WPF control in the industrial fields.This paper first introduces the status of the port lifting equipment monitoring systems and virtual reality at home and abroad and researches the WPF technology features. Then, gives the purpose of the system design, development programs, functional architecture and development platform with WPF as platform, achieving the online monitoring function of the device in a virtual environment as purpose and crane as object. And then according to system requirements, around the online monitoring system to achieve the three key technologies:model building, equipment, dynamic monitoring, human-computer interaction in-depth discussion and take a different approach from various angles to improve and achieve. Finally, the simulation of field conditions data analysis of the actual working process of the demonstration system.This paper has realized the functions of work station reproduction, real-time monitoring and human-computer interaction. The physical running effect of system in the working field indicates that the monitoring system is correct and practical. And the system design and modeling built methods are versatile and can be easily transplanted to the other online monitoring system.
