Analysis Of Spice Virtual Desktop Infrastructure And The Client Design And Implementation

Desktop virtualization technology, as an important cloud resources delivery method,decoupling user’s desktop environment and terminal devices, and with applicationvirtualization technology, it not only provides users with a convenient desktop environment,but also provides a centralized and secure way to manage desktops in the enterprise. With thedevelopment of virtualization and cloud computing technology, desktop virtualizationtechnology has been deployed by more and more companies.This paper first describes the virtualization technologies and analyzes the implementationof several mainstream virtual desktop infrastructures and protocols. Then we analyze thetechnologies used by Spice VDI and SPICE protocol, especially how the components of SpiceVDI collaborate with each other while handling user inputs, image outputs and USBredirection.Based on the research above, we designed and implemented the Spice client: Spice4CE,which allows user to access the desktop environment through mobile devices based onWinCE kernel. Spice4CE includes network communication module, event processing module,display UI and third party open source libraries. According to the performance test results,Spice4CE can provide a smooth office work experience through wireless network, such asdocument editing, image editing and web browsing. In the end, we proposed some solutionsto improve the multimedia performance of Spice4CE.
