In today’s world, electronic technology and computer technology develop rapidly. As an important way to achieve miniaturization and intelligence, embedded systems develop techniques has become one of the most popular technology. After decades of development, embedded systems have changed the way of people’s living, and working to a large extent. Artificial intelligence develops continuously, combine automatic control theory to form the theory of intelligent control. Fuzzy logic provides a theoretical method for constructing language information and turning it into a control strategy, and thus be able to solve the control problem of many systems which can not establish accurate mathematical model.Microprocessors and other integrated circuits made robots cheaper and they stimulated fast progress of robots. That resulted in creating many types of robots and one of them are mobile robots. Intelligent Vehicle, also known as wheeled mobile robot, is one kind of the mobile robots, the system combined many functions such as automatic driving, sensor detection, covering many disciplines such as sensor fusion, mechatronics, control, artificial intelligence and communication. Intelligent robots are able to engage in complex, hard work, is the new direction of development of industrial automation. In this design, a robotic car system is builded to research for the remote control driving and automatic driving, and research for speed control strategy and the battery charge management strategy.The design of the robotic car, including two parts:the car body and handheld remote controller. The car body uses32-bit microcontroller LPC2138as the control core, including the steering control circuit, speed control circuit, the wireless communication circuit, temperature measurement circuit, battery charging circuit, distance measuring and obstacle avoidance circuit. Handheld remote controler using8-bit MCU STC89C52RC as its controller, including key input circuit, LCD output circuit, the wireless communication circuit. The integrated H-bridge motor driver IC L298N is used to drive DC motor, fuzzy PID control algorithm and PWM technology are combined to control the motor, using the Matlab software to simulate the DC motor speed control system with fuzzy self-tuning PID controller. DC chopper circuit is adopted to realize the function of solar cell charging rechargeable lithium-ion batteries, the working principle of common DC chopper circuits are analyzed. Based on a SEPIC converter, the parameters of the components are selected well by a Matlab simulation test. At the end of the paper, the main work and achievement, problems and shortages is summarized, and suggestions for improvement of the robot car are given.
