Facing the pressures from environment protection and energy crisis, Electronic Vehicle (EV) has become an attractive research field of automotive industry due to it has many advantages, such as energy conservation, environment protection, low noise, energy sources diverse, etc. And the battery management system (BMS) as the corn compliment of the EV is also became a key research area of the automotive research field. BMS monitors the physical parameters of the battery, including total voltage, current, cell voltage, temperature, resistance of insulation and so on, and controls the battery, realizing the monitoring real-time. The BMS provides the guarantee of EV's stability, and improves the efficiency of battery and prolongs battery life.Analyzed the research situation of the BMS, and traversed the function and structure of BMS. To the question of the architecture about centralized model BMS, This paper provided a flexible and universal BMS architecture, the distributed model BMS. And designed a BMS based on embedded technology, to realize the accurately estimating of battery state of charge real-time and the protection of battery.With the modularization design principle, the design structure of BMS has become3parts, the Battery Management Unit, the High Voltage Collection Unit and the Local Electric Control Unit. They realized the function of battery management, high voltage collection, cell voltage collection and control. This architecture has improved the flexibility of the whole system. For the realization of the function of every module, this paper has provided the realization and design of the modules.The software of the BMS has also been designed as3parts with the layering and modularization design principle. And every software design part is layering managing. This paper designed the CAN communication and the algorithm of battery state of charge (SOC) independently. There is3independent CAN bus communicating pattern, realizing the inner and external communication of BMS. And the BMS realize the estimate of SOC by combining variety of SOC algorithm.By running of instrument, it is proved that the flexibility, generality, accuracy of data acquisition, accuracy of SOC estimate, antijamming capability, safety management strategy, system energy consumption etc. has fitted the target standards. And loading test in many vehicle manufacturer and research institute, running state is well, stable and reliable.
