Video surveillance system is an integral part of security systems. It is an integrated systemwith prevention ability. Video surveillance is widely used in many occasions because of direct,convenient and rich in information. Next-generation video compression standard——H.264canbe applied to most applications, because it has a higher compression ratio. H.264could guaranteea small footprint and the image quality. So we have to improve the video surveillance technologyto meet the demand of the market. we can’t use the video surveillance system which codingefficiency is very lower and have required high-bandwidth.This paper combined H.264video coding algorithm with embedded technology to design aremote Video surveillance system based on the H.264of the embedded platform. Now, thecoding efficiency is more efficient, a significant reduction in requirement of bandwidth, andtransmission efficiency is also improved. Believe that in the future through the study of the morepeople,the prospects of this video surveillance system will be very bright.In this paper, I havefinished the following works:(1) We make a brief introduce on the background of the Video surveillance system、thecourse of development and the development trends.(2) We make a detailed description of the H.264video coding algorithm, andHighlights several key technologies, and make it compared to several old codingstandards and summarized their advantages and disadvantages.(3) Third chapter, we make a detailed description of the build of the hardware andsoftware platform, and succeed in finishing the transplantation of the Linux kernel,BootLoader and root file system.(4) Fourth chapter, design the acquisition module and the transmission module whichcontains the transplantation of a number of code libraries and USB driver and thecreation of the Socket and so on.(5) Compared with the previous encoding algorithm, reasonable using H.264encodingalgorithm, it proved that the system in better compression of video information andsaved bandwidth; Compared to the Windows System, Select the embeddedplatform to develop the system to simplify some of the procedures in thedevelopment process and improved the work efficiency; In the video acquisitionpart, Because we use the mmap() to replace the previous read() and write(), greatlyenhance the work efficiency. Experimental results show that the video surveillancesystem developed in this article had the desired.
