Because of the fast data processing ,control and network capacity .Embedded System is an popular research fields in IT . It has a good performance in the field of information, gets a wide range of applications and development, and it has achieved great success. It's significant to study new methods and new application for embedded system. In this paper, the design of software and hardware of a vessel monitoring system based on embedded Linux and installation of the environment of the development platform, and processing of the noisy images after transmission are introduced in detail.Hardware design is the minimum structures of embedded circuit system required. The development environment is compose of the Boot loader, the JFFS2 file system and Linux kernel 2.6 cutted in the Development Board are established, and it may operate the code. The design of driver software focuses on I~2C. Through the completion of the registration and initialization, of I~2C equipment the interactive operation between the equipments and the core is achieved, and to make data transmit freely between the user space and kernel space; in the part of image acquisition CMOS camera is used acquire of the ship, and the software algorithm is completed by video4Linux, then the image is processed and compressed by JPEG. To transmit through network, socket functions are used to transmit the image of ship. For those noisy images, the wavelet theory is taken to preliminarily process for the next analysis for the image. In this paper, improvement for the JFFS2 file system is researched in certain depth. The monitoring has characteristic of low cost, small size, low power consumption, and it not only has some practical value for those ship management, but also could be applied to other image monitoring system.
