ObjectiveThis paper studied the scholarly influence and basic situation of themedical journals in Chongqing, and researched the existing problems. Theproper business model and detailed operations of the medical journals werediscussed and recommended.Methods1. Investigation object: The scholarly journals in Chongqing weresearched on CNKI according to region information, and the23publicallypublished medical journals in Chongqing chosen from the2011ChineseCitation Reports.2. Investigation indexes: The basic information was collected from thewebsites of the journals, and the sponsors of the journals were searched withthe help of the agencies for press and publication. The scholarly influencewas collected from the statistical library of2011Chinese Citation Reports,including cited frequency, influence factor, other cited rate, funded paperrate, area distribution number, and overseas paper rate. 3. Research method: Literature review and comparative research wereused, and the data were processed by Excel2010and SPSS17.0.Results1. The basic situation of the medical journals in Chongqing:1) The sponsors were mainly institutes and associations (14). The restwere colleges (6), research institutes (2), hospitals (2), provinceadministration department (1), information center (3) and editorialpublications (1).2) The ratio of journals of college scholarly newspaper (medicine),journals of general medicine, predictive medicine, Chinese medicine,internal medicine, medicine of gynaecology and obstetrics, medicine ofpediatrics, oncology, special medicine as well as pharmacy in Chongqingwas similar with those in the whole country. While the ratio of scholarlynewspapers in medical school, medical treatment and maintenance,fundamental medicine, clinical medicine, neuropathy, Psychiatric,dermatosis, venereology, eye-ear-nose-throat medicine and oral cavitymedicine was lower than the average level of the whole country. Theproportion of surgical medicine journal in Chongqing was significantlyhigher than that of the average level in the whole country.2. The scholarly quality of medical journals in Chongqing:1) The total cited frequency was related to the establishment time tosome extent, mainly1000~5000(56.5%). The rate cited was between 0.70~0.98, influence factor mainly between0.5~1(52.2%), funded paperrate between0.1~0.5(60.9%). Only9out of23journals collected overseaspaper. In the area distribution, only5journal almost covered everyprovince of the country, most journals covered20~29areas (69.6%).2) Compared with the average level of other medical journals in thecountry, the average total cited frequency, average influence factor, averagearea distribution number, average rate of funded paper and average rate ofoverseas paper were all lower.ConclusionIn summary, the medical journals in Chongqing showed some problemssuch as incomplete management and operation model, similar distributionof subject, low scholarly quality influence, low home attention andinternational influence. Therefore, the journals should accurately positionthemselves and determine the position in the business chain according tothe purpose of this journal as well as way and method to achieve social andeconomic value under such position, including determination of journalmanagement system, accurate journal positioning, determination of journalmanagement system, accurate journal positioning, improving the scholarlyquality and influence, improving the rate of being interested andinternational influence, a strong editorial team, establishing a suitablemanagement model for the medical journals in Chongqing.
