As the development of the economy, the quantity of Chinese newspaper has beenincreasing rapidly in a short time, particularly the metropolitan newspaper developedwith a surprising speed, the metropolitan newspaper was born from1995to2010, thenational metropolitan newspaper has achieved283within15years’ development, andmost of them located in the capital city or the center city of region. At the same time,the newspaper homogenization phenomenon appears along with the development ofthe metropolitan newspaper. The redundant market localization of advertisement,brand and the audiences which caused the low level the price competition, such asYunnan Kunming, Jiangsu Nanjing metropolitan newspapers has experienced thecompetitive war, fighting for the reader and the advertisement resources of themarketing. Meanwhile, with the mutual imitation between the regions newspaper,presented the thousand newspapers with the same face at the same time, finally theregion market lack of the newspaper with core competition.Chongqing as Chinese one of four municipalities, situated at southwest China, isthe economic center and the financial center of Yangtze River upstream area. In therecent years, Chongqing’s economic growth rate increased rapidly, based on this, thenewspaper industry market development also along with it increased speed. Along withthe Huashang Newspaper Group’s investment,"Chongqing Times" landed Chongqingin2004, the Chongqing metropolitan newspaper competition become more intense,once crown as "the fourth city of newspaper industry" by journalistic field.In recent years,"Chongqing Economic Times" developed rapidly, depended uponthe flexible management, the marketability management strategy, the brand promotion,and arouses the media attention. This paper takes Chongqing metropolitan newspapermarket’s development as the research foundation, has carried on the summary to itscompetitive stage, and has introduced in the economic competition strategy theory toanalyze the "Chongqing Economic Times" competition strategy in the differentcompetitive stage. For the purpose of emphasizing the importance of the competitionstrategy in the newspaper industry, and in order to provides the competition strategymode for the traditional media when deals with the market competition.
