Design And Implementation Of OAIS-based Biodiversity Heritage Library

In result of the dramatic development of Internet and computer, more and more institutesproviding digital information face the challenge from preserving, managing, accessing, andsharing information transformed from traditional media or native digital information.Therefore, design and implementation of long-term information preservation system becomesa hot research topic.In this paper, the author purposes a package of solution for integrating modules inBiodiversity Heritage Library-Europe (BHL-Europe) based on the study on data model andfunction model in Open Archive Information System (OAIS) reference model, the basicfeatures of Staged Event-Driven Architecture (SEDA) and Enterprise Application IntegrationPatterns (EAI). This solution implements the Archival Storage and Data Managementmodules with industry mainstream open source software, and develop the Ingest and Accessmodules with EAI open source framework. The solution utilizes messaging middle-ware andbatch framework according to the message asynchronism and message transformation in thesystem, which benefits the whole system from better performance in data routing,transformation, management and load balance of system.At last, the author evaluates the current status of BHL-Europe and put forward theoutlook accordingly.
